To use big data, think small first

Big data is a very common and important thing that every company needs, but many people even CMO or some other high-ranking business executives, they really want to use big data in their business but they don’t really know where to start. Because for many of us, big data is still a new subject, it is not what we good at, so it can be daunting to a layman. There are dozens of businessmen would rather pay for data solutions in expensive price, but not try it themselves because it is difficult for them, and they don’t know where to start.
The author of this article gave us some suggestions, his advice is: smart small. He said the best way to get familiar with big data is to identify a single simple problem with your company and use data to help you determine how to fix it. Nowadays, many information need big data to help the company to make some decisions, if it didn’t have the data or the data capabilities then the company will find it is hard to make an informed decision, just like the example in this article.
At the beginning of this semester, I felt big data is really hard to me, many new knowledges and proper nouns have to memorize. Now, the end of the semester, I still think that big data is really hard. But after reading this article, I know how important the big data is for many field, and data doesn’t have to be complicated. The best way to do big data is to start with a simple but useful case and think small.
