As
a human, we need to be aware of the population of bees since it has an
important role in our life. The fact that the number of bees’ population is
starting to decline pushes companies such as Microsoft, Oracle and SAS to find
ways to help boost the declining population of bees. They are making a good use
of AI and big data analytics to develop smart beehives and apps to understand
bees’ behavior better.
SAS’ Use of Advanced Analytics & ML
It is written that SAS
has four beehives at its main campus in North Carolina which makes them easier
to work with beekeepers to check the condition of the beehives in real time. Moreover,
SAS works with Appalachian State University to create data visualization on the
world’s bee population to find ways to protect the beehives. On top of that,
SAS also establishes a hackathon which can help in understanding the bees’ language
through ML to boost human food supplies.
AI-powered Bioacoustic Monitoring
System
SAS’ researchers have
developed a system using digital signal processing tools and ML algorithms
through SAS Viya software that can monitor the hives. They also use robust
principal component analysis (RPCA) to make sure that only the hum from the
hive is distributed through the system.
Mapping World’s Bee Populations
With the help of
Appalachian State University, SAS created a data visualization of the locations
of bees around the world. Other than that, there is also a World Bee Count app for
users to add more data to the Global Pollinator Map and visualization map that
shows the pictures that are submitted by users.
AI-Powered Beehives Using Microsoft Azure
We4bee, a Germany start
up launches AI and data-driven beehives that can help researchers to study
social patterns of the bee populations. We4bee also work with Microsoft in
order to improve its technology and uses Azure credits to make a prototype to
collect the data from Microsoft IoT services.
Smart Beehives Using Oracle Cloud & Analytics Tools
In the UK, a non-profit organization
also has been working together with University of Reading and Oracle using
cloud storage and analytics tools to develop smart beehives.
As explained from the article, Big Data
Analytics and AI are very important to help human in finding alternatives and
ways to avoid any problem in human’s life.
