This semester I have an e-commerce class and I realized that one of the biggest problem that e-commerce face is fraud. Therefore, I decided to write about this article about using big data to handle and overcome fraud in e-commerce.

Every person using an e-commerce platform will of course input their data and this is what should be used as our strength. This data can help create a unique profile for each person and will be used as a way to verify identities before completing transactions. It can keep fraudsters from gaining access to e-commerce accounts and also act as a second security authorization. The types of data that can be used as verification are emails, mobile numbers, and documents. The person with the account will be directly contacted and informed.

Therefore, if there are any unusual activities or different patterns of the user we can detect possible fraudster activity. For example, if someone suddenly makes a transaction at dawn where the customer behavior shows that they usually do most purchasing at noon, the transaction could be flagged for further verification. This way, fraudsters can be handled in a faster and can be caught easily.

In conclusion, I think that e-commerce should use big data to really detect fraudster and make their platform a more comfortable place for customers to do shopping. If any company is ahead of others in terms of protecting customers’ privacy safety, I think that the company will grow bigger, faster, and will gain public name leading to a higher percentage of success.
