Hotels Go Green with IoT, Big Data (From Kelly, 6/2)

        People are now more conscious about the environmental issue and hotel industry no exception. The main point for hotel industry to care about environmental improvement is due to they want to reduce their operating cost and energy consumption take a big part in their operating costs. That’s why the hotel industry contributes to do energy estimating and then do their best to control energy waste. And the operators choose to adopt the IoT and big data as their solution to achieve their goal, which is called smart hotel solution.
        
        One of the smart solutions hotels may use is to sense the environment. if we divided the hotel into two kinds of space. One is the common area and another one is the private room. Then the energy will also consume in two different needs. While the hotel equipped with the sensor, it can sense the customer flow in the lobby and adjust the air conditioner temperature or the lighting system. If it is in the private room it can also automatically turn on or turn off all of the electronic facilities.
         
         As the role of data mentioned in the article, the devices can also become a recorder. It can give the operators analysis results and optimize the use of energy. Consequently, the hotel can perform with a better monitoring energy controlling system and optimize its use according to the footfall offered by the data. So it comes to a good combination of saving energy and the cost at the same time.
