Comment 5: 5 reasons to study Big Data Why you should study Big Data

I believe that knowledge of big data is important, and that most people should have a basic understanding of it, but we should also be educated in the limits of big data, AI and other technologies and maybe start thinking of solutions as to how humans could be useful in a society embedded and reliant on technology.

These are compelling reasons and perhaps the more people who study big data, the more potential there would be for people to think of more solutions, but if we are reliant of big data as an end all for making decisions, then maybe we would eventually not make the smartest decisions?

We will see where technology leads us, and hopefully its a much better place than most pessimists see it, and for that it would take a lot of the population to fully understand it, but not be too focused to it. When recommendations as to what to study are given to the broad population, it usually creates a obsolete degree.

A good example on what happens when too many people are encouraged to go into a field because "the money is good" would be programmers - back in the day programmers were paid a lot and therefor parents encouraged their children to study programming. Now we have a surplus of programmers and that drove down the price of programming - making the only viable people to do programming to be low cost individuals from third world countries.
