BENEFITS OF BIG DATA FOR FOOD AND BEVERAGE INDUSTRY


This is my first time heard of the food and beverage industry using big data. After reading the article and what Sharon mentioned. I already have some ideas. I think it is just like some business using big data analysis to predict customers’ tastes. 

Analysis of customer behavior

I think food and beverage company should take it more seriously since customers’s flavors change every second. Also, with fast-developing technology, people use their smartphones to express their thoughts and moods. In my view, it is a good opportunity for restaurants. And through big data analysis, they can save time and efforts. 

Better insight

Big data analytic is used widely here. Companies manufacturing food should consider about customers’ demand to check the purchase. Food waste has become a serious problem. An average person wastes 238 pounds of food per year. And it cost about $1800 per year. The enormous number is still increasing. Not only individuals but also business should has a better insights. 

Increase efficiency

With big data analysis, business can reduce some labor costs. Furthermore, it can help business to explore its limits and figure out the representative products. Transformed restaurants should have a certain understanding of its customer so that that can do the promotion easily. 

Enhance sales and marketing tactics

Big data has changed the food and beverage industry into a new retail revolution. Since the restaurants have the understating to some extent, they can use big data effortlessly. The analysis help business to predict and segment their customers in more details. For example, a restaurant selling pizza and beer. Its target customer should be younger and college students. 

Quality control

Customers become pickier and pickier. Quality control is an important aspect in food and beverage industry.
