The origin of finding whether there is something between big data and barbecue is that I went to a friend of my mom’s house, they invited all of us to go there to barbecue, and just do not know why I came up with this idea. Just that simple. Truly, I really find something related with them.

I thought that how will it work? After looking through this article, I was a little depressed, because I thought it might be talking all about big data and “barbecue”. But it was much more like a short inspiration from a company CEO’s wife, she said “Barbecues and Big Data – let’s make this work!” and then extend to the restaurant part. Like they can use POS System in stores and directly capturing the sales, collects different data sets together for example customer response program, feedback online, or different format of survey.

The point that inspired me the most is the article mentioned about they use big data to select which items, which food to put on the menu. From my perspective, if every restaurant or store does things like that, how do the restaurant and store create their own value and differentiate itself through competitors? Are they able to attract customers? But maybe I think not deep enough, so probably customers are not that difficult to target, because the variables that will influence customers’ mind is very many and complicated, so that is also hard to tell and imagine.
