Blog1: 5 Cool Ways Companies Are Using Big Data

The five companies mentioned in the article made me feel the development of big data, which not only makes our lives more convenient, but also gives us a greater happiness in our lives.

There are two points I want to talk about: the first one, Spotify.I am also one of the users of Spotify, this is a very personal music software. I often edit my playlist according to genre, and because of this I found many new singers on Spotify. They create their own music and put the work on the platform for everyone to enjoy. Over time, your fans will accumulate. The new features mentioned in the article, artists, use big data analysis to learn the preferences of fans, so that creators can find their own genre positioning, which is a win-win situation for fans and creators! There are also concert tickets, because the help of big data not only brings happiness but also expands marketing.

And, the second one is magic mirror. I think it is a cool invention nowadays. When I shopping online, I always can’t find the products which were suitable fore me. In fact, I had some awful experience when shopping online. The most common problem that I encountered is clothes were too tight or loose for me. With this technology, I can quickly know my clothing style or make-up style. Big data correlates my own personal purchase history with things like preferences, socio-demographic information, and more. It gives me the most suitable product that I won't be able to resist buying!

  1. I've never used magic mirror and I was a user of Spotify for a while. It really is a personalized music streaming service. It's even more personalized than YouTube; it's like having your very own CD. However, I stopped using it when I realized that I couldn't go back to a song that I had previously listened to.
Big data also allows for online games to be successful. For example, playing chess online is really interesting. You're playing against a computer and it gets smarter with every move and the game thereby gets more challenging. It also remembers how you have played in the past.
Companies are getting really creative with the use of big data in the success of their businesses.

  2. Before reading this article, I don’t even know that big data can also uses in game. The article has mentioned that it can use artificial intelligence to remember your steps and your movement, and also can predict your next step! This is really convenient for everyone. Not only that, console gaming and big data can marry well to create an immersive experience for players when it comes to when they play and how long for. Creating massive campaign games like Skyrim or addictive quick-fire games like Activision’s Call of Duty allows developers to latch on to trends in gameplay. Call of Duty: Black Ops 3, for example, utilised a team of data scientists to make the gameplay more “fun”. Skyrim’s data will have discovered how long a player spends on the game – and can therefore increase the interactive elements to keep them playing longer. The various incarnations of FIFA give an idea of the interest in sporting games in a household, and can be used by the console stores to suggest other, similar sports games that are more likely to appeal to these players. The targeting campaign can find who plays the most and therefore would be more susceptible to the ad prompts. The job is even easier if Facebook and Twitter accounts are connected to the games’ servers – players’ likes are amalgamated and their gaming history evaluated in order to advertise products the consumer might actually want. If you’re interested in something on Facebook and connect it to your console, every time you activate Face.
