Big data ethics should relate to four basic principles that can lead to the establishment of big data norms:
  • Privacy isn’t dead; it’s just another word for information rules. Ensuring privacy of data is a matter of defining and enforcing information rules – not just rules about data collection, but about data use and retention. 
  • Shared private information can still remain confidential. For many reasons, some of them quite good, data (and metadata) is shared or generated by design with services we trust (e.g. address books, pictures, GPS, cell tower, and WiFi location tracking of our cell phones). 
  • Big data requires transparency. Big data is powerful when secondary uses of data sets produce new predictions and inferences. For big data to work in ethical terms, the data owners (the people whose data we are handling) need to have a transparent view of how our data is being used – or sold.
  • Big Data can compromise identity. Big data analytics can compromise identity by allowing institutional surveillance to moderate and even determine who we are before we make up our own minds. We need to begin to think about the kind of big data predictions and inferences that we will allow, and the ones that we should not.
The law is a powerful element of Big Data Ethics, but it is far from able to handle the many use cases and nuanced scenarios that arise. Organizational principles, institutional statements of ethics, self-policing, and other forms of ethical guidance are also needed. Technology itself can help provide an important element of the ethical mix as well. This could take the form of intelligent data use trackers that can tell us how our data is being used and let us make the decision about whether or not we want our data used in analysis that takes place beyond our spheres of awareness and control.

    Big data is now a common thing that is very important for everybody. To be honest, it is not only for us, the people to live a normal life and make it become more worthy, but it is for everybody, the company, the coworker, the government, basically everybody in this planet can use the data to make their lives become better and better.Big data is used to analyze a huge amount of data in the current situation, to find out what trends the numbers are moving, and to simply organize the data. I think big data will have even more potential and enrich our lives. Think about Big Data is going to become a major part of our lives, I am appalled if I think that tomorrow's clothes and today's lunch may come to depend on big data.it is also important for the company to show their transparency about the collected data and how will they deal with it, so if we are sure that they will not use it in a bad way, then we can feel more relaxed. Because big data can help us in so many useful ways, so if we learn and understand more about it, it is for sure will become a treasure for us and will enhance our living life.Thanks for jovanka share, let me know more about this because I don’t usually read books or articles about farming, to me farming is a thing that I have no interest on it and I will not touch it. I have learned a lot of knowledge let I have never thought of before.
