In the past,
people struggle to predict about what is going to happen in the future
considering there are not many resources we can use. But as the world becoming
more modern and globalize, the development of modern technology keeps growing
bigger and bigger. As a result, nowadays we can easily predict any outcome or
futures by using the help of big data. Big data is a field that focus on analyzing,
systematically extract information from, and dealing with data sets that are
too large or complex to be dealt. With the existence of big data now people can
easily see what is coming no matter the conditions.
Big data ability
to make prediction have been applied by many fields, from business to even
fighting crimes. In fact, New York police department is known for using big
data specifically data-crunching technology to geo-locate and analyze “historical
arrest pattern”. This help the police to find out which spot will likely have
the most crimes so they can prevent them before it actually happened.
Another example of
the application of big data can be seen many large retailers in United States,
Wal-mart and Kohl’s. Both of the company are making use of sales, pricing, and
economic data, combined with demographic and weather data, to fine-tune merchandising
store and anticipate appropriate timing of store sales.
Overall, big
data now have become important as part of everyday life. I think people should
consider using big data so they can create better decision making to minimize
the risk. This is especially important to anyone who want to start a business
or even company who already succeed so they can maintain their company well-being.
As an online shop owner, I agree that big data really help us to predict the customer’s behavior. There are times when I open my social media, an advertisement of a product that I have been wanted to buy suddenly pops up on my Instagram home screen. Here, I realized that the big data already analyze my behavior on online website, shopping history, and search engine. It can predict which type of advertisement the customers really wanted to see. Not only that, big data that are applied in some applications such as Uber Eats and Food Panda, which can give you some suggestion about the restaurant that near your current location so it will reduce the delivery cost.
ReplyDeleteAs you can see, big data really gives an advantages for both sides. I used to have an online shop using Instagram. There is some features called insight where you can see which type of customers that visit your account, gender, location, the number of people shares and save the post. Based on the insight, we could understand our target customer better once we do an advertisement that also provided by Instagram via Facebook. Therefore, it also helps those who are in need to find some certain product easily.
Big data is a good investment for most of the business in this era. There are so many unexpected things that big data can observe even human can’t because the extravagant amount of the works. It will also help us to create better decision making to minimize the risk and also reduce the costs.
