               Tesco is known as one of the largest groceries, general merchandise and food retailer in United Kingdom. Besides their success in retailing, they are also known as the company with good technology and big data system. In addition, Tesco is the very first ever supermarket chains to be able to track their costumer activity by using the loyalty card program.
               Tesco main purpose of applicating big data in their store is because they want to update their consumer behaviors, reduce food waste, and compete with their competitors. Tesco have a several ways to apply big data to their business strategy. For starter, Tesco head of forecasting and analytics, Mike Moss, tried to use analytics and clustering to identify how their customers shop for each product. Using this information can help company decide how many products they need to order so they can prevent from over inventory. Second, Tesco also uses sensor data to monitor their fridges’ and freezers’ temperature all over their stores. This method can help them control their maintenance and service time. Next, Tesco is using in-database analytics to track over 3500 stores they own. Using in-database analytics can save more time and do thing more effective and efficient considering with every store will range an average of 40.000 products and can take over 100 million data points.
               In short, this article shown how advance technology and big data is considered a crucial part of retailing business. Business leader should be able to learn from Tesco application of big data so they can gain the most while minimizing the risk or loss.
