Imagine doing an exam without even studying for it, you probably won't get an ideal result. Data is like that too, if we don't prepare data in advance for optimal performance, it isn't going to please those who consume it. In fact, one of the leading cause of big data failure is poor data preparation.People managing the projects can't accept nor can they afford failure, this is why it is critical for organizations to have a big data preparation strategy and methodology. The six critical and essential strategies to prepare data are the followings:

A thorough understanding of present and future business questions the data is expected to yield answers for.
Understanding the business and knowing the area of the business help better shape the data gathering strategy.

Data centralization.
Data should be normalized and consistent throughout the whole company. Everyone should be using the same  data.

Identification of data sources that must feed into the central analytics information repository. 

Identification of future data sources that are likely to become relevant.
It is never too soon to begin to look for and identify possible supporting or relevant data sources. These data sources will be critical for the future.
Defined data preparation methodology.

Three fundamental steps should be taken
  1. Extract data from its source.
  2. Transform data into a format that is compatible with the data destination it is going to
  3. Load the data into the destination repository

Selected effective data preparation tools.
There are myriad data preparation tools on the market, so companies are advised to try them and work with vendors that offer strong support and training.
