In a relatively short period of time, big data has become a big business in professional sports. The market for sports analytics is expected to reach almost $4 billion by 2022, and teams around the world are racing to get some competitive advantages. The way we play soon never be the same.

Lets take a look how this sport has change by the data and become their new tool to reach success

Soccer : In 2007, there is a soccer club called Lincoln City F.C. They made a historic run to the quater-finals of the FA Cup for the first time since forever, becoming the first non league side to reach that stage in more than 100 years. And big data played a big role.
At the root of their analytic strategy was a video review tool, which is used by 150.000 teams worldwide. They record all their matches and upload the footage to the system, which automatically generated their statistical reports of their games. The video can be broken down into playlist focusing on specific player or specific play type. The statistical game reports provide the team with both raw and aggregated data. Players could access that report and video wherever they were

Not only in the soccer industries got a advantages from this statistical report, even in football and basketballl, they got an advantage from this data. And now some NBA team continue to look data to gain some competitive advantages over their opponents and some NBA team using wearable data so their coaches can track every movement on the court and the data allow the coaches to see their player performance and player health through data.

THE FUTURE OF BIG DATA IN ATHLETES
We've only scratched the use big data in sports. Every bit of data now can be collected and can be use again in the future. Like what I have mention, the wearable technology can help monitor the player on the feild. As these technology become smarter, player safety and performance can be check, analyze and improved.

  1. The a very nice and interesting blog post! as a sports enthusiast, i can see the changes that Big Data has on how it is played and broadcasted. the sports industry is a very big industry. famous players such as roger federer and christiano ronaldo is payed millions of dollars to play a sport they like. Federer receives about 100 million dollars this year, while christiano ronaldo, one of the biggest soccer star receives 31 million euro last year alone. with that amount of money on the table, the competitiveness of this industry is really high. players and teams demands the most accurate and correct calls to be made each and everytime. this is where big data comes in. The introduction of VAR on the last worldcup has changed how the game is played. outside of the live games, Big Data is also used to maximise a players or a teams performance. using big data, trainers can utilise the data they have and improve their players physicality and skillset. For example, in the NBA they use big data on scoresheets. scoresheets shows you how every players performs on the court. they count variables such as points, rebounds, assists, and even usage percentage. they use this as a reference on where a player should improve. and for the coaching staff, they have player tracking. player tracking enables you to track every players movements on the court. they use this to figure out the opponents strategy and create patterns on how to effectively run the offence. a very good blog post! keep it up
