Big data is anywhere in our life. We do not ever think of how is it go through in our daily activity, but we do feel the happiest also convenient while living in a smart city. This article mentioned several example that how the big data is changing the world.

You may wondering how do those expert counter people’s happiness. Where do those data come from? It actually related to every post that we shared, any word that we searched . What could a advanced computing centre may do when they are with those big data. Such as The frequently written of some words such as starving and heartburn may imply a message to a higher ratio of obesity in a specific place. Which is this experiment is really important to the government on understand the behaviour of their citizen and what they should focus on when doing the city planning.

I see eye to eye with Carlo Ratti (Director of MIT’s Senseable Cities Lab), about his thought on the digital copy based on big data. “it is fantastic but scary at the same time.” It scored what we do and place reminders or relevant news for us. Yes, it help us to save our time. However, it do make people feel like someone is keeping a close eyes on them. Government is the one own the biggest authority in a country. What consequence that they are using data for city planning, but something else? That why people also in fear on their privacy.

  1. You are right, big data really is all around us. It's in aspects of our lives that we sometimes don't even realize. For example, things as simple as swiping the metro card when we take the bus or train.
It is indeed great but at the same time scary, I agree. I feel like the government spies on citizens with the use of big data. I am happy that I am from a country that is not fully developed and so, I don't have to worry about invasion and a lack of privacy. Recently, I was reading an article about a drone in the form of a tiny dragon fly created in the United States. This 'fly' can land on someone and pick up so much information. It is reported that this drone can even pick up someone's DNA! I feel for those who live in developed countries because the governments tend to spy on them.
Big data is amazing but only when used for the right reasons and spying on innocent citizens is not one of them.
