In this era, the commercial film target market is everyone, not just a group of people under 25 years old. This means the market segmentation is large which is why big data is needed. Nowadays, big data analysis is also taking over the film industry.
Using big data analysis, they can know how people are going to watch the content, what content suits best to your tastes, and they can also know that you get bored when you are scrolling through the menu after a while. Once they know what the audience looks for in content, they will provide contents according to the audience. For example, Netflix, it knows what, how and when users want it and users have the power to choose their content. However, this puts the traditional partnership of studios at a disadvantage because they do not have the data about consumer behavior. Therefore, they can’t predict accurately whether the film will be successful or a failure.
Big Data analytics are a tool for providers to engage with their customers. That is why Netflix knows when users scrolled to another tab, paused for a break, switched to the next episode, which shows they like to watch, etc. This helps them to know their user’s tastes. If we compare it with Disney, Disney does not have a way to know these kinds of information. We can see that Netflix has mastered this tool in a way that does not stifle creativity, and gives agency to both creatives at one end of the pipeline, and users at the other end.
From this article, we can conclude that big data analytics tools are a must in opening a business. In order to understand consumer, we need the help of this tool to analyze consumer behavior. If we still use the traditional way, it is harder for us to know what their likes and dislikes are, how they react to our service/products, etc.

In this blog, Aileen wrote about big data analytics in film making. Why did I choose to read this article? Personally, I have an interest in the filming industry so when I read the title, it caught my attention. I think this is such an interesting article to read and I am curious about how big data analytics contribute in the film making industry.
It was written that big data analytics tools can help to get information about how people are going to watch the content. For example, as written above, Netflix use big data analytics tools to know more about their consumer behavior such as what, how, and when their consumers want a specific content. Other than that, by using big data analytics tools, Netflix can also know what tastes their consumers tend to have. These are some of the advantages of using big data analytics tools in film making industry. On the contrary, there are also some disadvantages. One of the disadvantages will be experienced by traditional partnership of studios because they will not have the data about consumer behavior. By not having the data about consumer behavior, they will be unable to predict whether their film will be successful or a failure.
Aileen wrote that big data analytics tools are a must in opening a business to understand customers. I agree with Aileen’s opinion because it is very important to understand customer behavior if you want your business to keep going. Since big data analytics is rising these days, it is not a bad idea to use big data analytics tools to improve your work.

I used to wonder how Youtube can recommend me videos to watch, or Netflix can tell me about some tv shows of movies that I might like. The clips that they offer me seem to always match what I like. At first, I didn’t realise that big data analytics is the one behind all this.
After reading Aileen’s blog, it made me have a better understanding about what’s behind these industries. They are actually gathering information about us their users, looking for what we actually like and fulfilling our demands and tell us what else we should watch. They know what kinds of clips that we usually watch. This way ease the users to find the best to watch because of the analytics that run by big data. Like Netflix, they understand their audience and how they want it and they even have the power to choose their content. Netflix puts the traditional partnership of other studios and distributors at a disadvantage.
But it is also a concern that big data analytics are invading our privacy. The thought of someone knew about or preferences but us not noticing who or what are them is quite disturbing. It allows a path for people to be hacked more easily. I consider this a flaw in the system and a threat to the users.
But if we look it in the business view, using big data analytics is a real benefit and might develop the movie industry in a more advance way.

Since film industry always got my interest, I really find this topic that Aileen chose is really fun and entertaining to read. It is fascinating to know that film industry also needed big data in order to operate. After reading her blog, I gain some several information. Firstly, how film industry uses big data to analyze what the viewers want to watch or content that suited the viewers taste. One of the examples mentioned in the article is Netflix, one of the biggest streaming platforms for movies and series world widely. As a daily Netflix user, it is amazing to know how Netflix algorithm works. How they use big data to select the right content to display in our Netflix home page. I always wonder how it is possible that Netflix always find what kind of movies or series I like or interested in. But after reading this post, I finally got the idea of how it works. They collect our watch history like what kind of movie we watched in the past, what kind of my movie we put in our watching list. From that information they use it to analyze the similar genres of movies that they think we will also like.
Overall, I think Aileen really did a great job on summarizing the article. The post is really easy to understand. In additional, the word choices are also very great. I learned a lot of brand-new information about big data and film industry thanks to this blog.
