As being Feng Chia Astronomy Club’s vice director this semester, I am really interested in Astronomy. In Astronomy field, there are a few differences between Astronomy and Astrology. Mostly, Astronomy will argue against Astrology and regard it with no scientific evidence. However, I found an interesting article which mentions about Astrology and Predictive Analytics, and it refers to our big data topics.

As a human being, being curious about your future life and fortune has always been normal. In Western, by going through Astrology; in the East, we go to the temple. I never thought before that there is any connection between Astrology and Predictive Analytics. Apparently, they have the same goals: forecasting.

According to the article, we can infer that Astrology uses scientific methods regardless of whether you believe it or not. The whole process shows how Predictive Analytics works. Simply to say, both of them use existed data or we can say historic data to predict future events or what happened. Take Astrology for example, the date of your birth, places, time, seasons, years are the variables that will take into consideration. Predictive Analytics will be wider depends on the main things we are going to analyze. I think the biggest differences are the tools. Under technology evolution, the tools for Predictive Analytics are more advance nowadays. Some statistical techniques will support the analyst to be more accurate and precise.

From my perspectives, I think that Astrology is a reflection of Predictive Analytics in our daily life. When we look at different angles, it would not be that academic and difficult.
