This article describes how researchers are using big data to help fight the coronavirus more effectively and accurately. Big data allow more dynamic, fast, and precise risk assessments. (ex. possibility amount of virus in wastewater, names of people with a high percentage of infection, etc.). Big data has helped tremendously in this corona virus pandemic.

I learned that physical measures (staying at home, wearing masks, etc) are not enough to fight this pandemic. We need the help of big data to develop smart prevention measures. For example, when there is a person that is tested positive, big data can be used to rapidly make a radius of the area that has a potentially high percentage of spreading. Therefore, people in that area especially food delivery drivers and others near the area can be more cautious and avoid the area for the time being. With this, we can decrease the risk of people getting infected.

Companies can also use big data to plan their supply chain by predicting supply and demand, and also to plan their logistic routes. This will make remote working less risky and less stressful. Businesses can use big data to survive and make a turning point in changing their business models. Many new businesses may arise and improve while many may also fail depending on how they strategically use computations.

This pandemic is unpredicted and has put a lot of pressure on people. I learned from this article that big data can play a crucial role in how to survive during coronavirus and will make a drastic trend evolvement after the pandemic ends.

Vivi’s blog explains the significance of big data that can be apply in the problem that the whole world are facing now. Of course we are very familiar of this COVID-19 pandemic. Like Vivi have mention that big data can help to find the names of people with a high percentage of infection and to acquire an intelligent prevention measures. As we have seen many countries are currently in lockdown. Lockdown means that everyone should stay at home, only the groceries and pharmacies that can still run for business. This method if successfully practiced and obeyed by the people can be effective and efficient to defeat COVID-19 from their country.
The hard thing is to control the people. How to know if they really are staying at home? Are they really obeying the rules? Can they stop their work for this? Because the world now is facing an impossible choice between saving lives and saving livelihoods. I can relate in this area because now my family in Indonesia are staying at home but their business are dying and of course we need money to survive too. However, we all do want this to be over as soon.
After reading Vivi’s blog I really hope that countries can start using Big data to find a more dynamic, faster and more precise risk assessments. Big data can help both on saving lives and saving livelihoods. By using big data, countries can rise both in economy and defeat the COVID-19 altogether. It is really important for any country to realise this.
