Big Data Model to Help Optimize Hospital Resources During COVID-19
There is a new model being developed by researcher at the Vanderbilt's Data Science Institute, located in Nashville, Tennessee, USA, that will use big data to address the impact of COVID-19 in various aspects, such as policies, procedures and resources.
This new tool will be used to measure the needs of Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt, so that they can know what resources the hospital will need and this way they can be prepared for the number of COVID-19 pacients that will come to the hospital.
Students and staff at the Data Science Institute are working to build a model that will make possible to visualize and simulate varying patient loads and hospital mitigation policies, such as the deferral of elective surgeries, re-sterilization of equipments and additional staffing. This model will predict the capacity of hospitals or the impact of hospital policies and mitigations.
With this all together, these new models that are being developed will provide a good picture of the impacts made by COVID-19, and with these models, hospitals will be able to make decisions easier, maximizing their resources.
During this COVID-19 pandemic, a lot of hospitals are suffering shortages and threat of limited capacity. Various leaders across the industry are acting quickly to develop new tools to help organizations.
Recently, Cleveland Clinic also built analytics models to help organizations with patient volume, bed capacity, ventilator availability, among others.
Real-time data is really powerful and play an important role in mitigating the effects of COVID-19. This kind of tool can help organizations to keep up or stay ahead of the pandemic.
I think it is really nice that they are using big data to fight against one of the world's biggest threats at the moment, the COVID-19. This article shows how Big Data is used in the real world to develop meaningful projects. I enjoyed to learn a little bit about how Big Data can be used in a lot of situations to develop important tools.
