BIG DATA AND EDUCATION: HELP OR HARM?
Why big data
called “big”? because its data processing ability is more stronger compare to
the traditional data.
Although big data
is more sophisticated and it cannot let traditional one take over the data. Because
of this feature, big data can analyze such a large amount of information and
brings many opportunities.
According to the
article"Big data has brought significant changes to many aspects of
education. According to a study, published by the Publications Office of the
European Union, the most significant change brought by the big data to
education, is the ability to monitor educational systems."
According to the
article” Students create a lot of data information per day. Through
the Social Network Adapting Pedagogical Practice (SNAPP) into the
teaching process, studying students’ blogs, and measuring how much they are
interested in a specific course.” Big data has achieved a learning management
system in education. He allows teachers to create assignments through system
automation
Spending time
tracking students ’daily social circles helps improve students’ learning
The other is an
ethical issue, which involves personal privacy. For example, the above errors
in using the system may cause a large number of individuals to be exposed on
the Internet
The achievement of
the big data on education is the creation of a learning management system. It
allows teachers to use automated information online to create assignments and
send information.

The blog focuses on big data in education and it provides video which makes me understand more about big data. In addition, the blog gives information regarding the global internet population growth from the year 2012-2017. Moreover, the blog explains five main components of big data which are volume, velocity, variety, veracity and variability.
ReplyDeleteAdditionally, it suggests that big data has several advantages on educational systems. Teachers can adopt big data into their teaching process. Also, it can help measuring mistakes from students' tests. Besides, it helps creating learning management system. Furthermore, it provides information about the risks when using big data such as lack of internet use competencies, difficult-to-process data and software failure.
After all, big data still benefits students and teachers. However, it is very important to consider the disadvantages of using big data which can cause negative impact to education system.

ReplyDeleteGreat share Gimmy! According to reports, we generate more than 250 million data per day on average. A large portion of this data belongs to the most active Internet users, including schools and college students. When searching, processing and using information online, they left digital breadcrumbs that became part of the big data collected every day. As a result, these data affect education, change education, and bring pros and cons. However, before we discuss the good and the bad, let us first clarify what big data is. However, the biggest problem is the moral issue, which involves the misuse of personal information. For example, the above errors using the SNAPP system may lead to a large amount of personal data leakage. Due to lack of proper processing and protection, personal information stored in data centers and used for analytical purposes may still be misused. As the risk of data theft increases, this issue is undoubtedly yet to be resolved. Although big data has obvious benefits for the education system, it still has many shortcomings, which are related to the lack of technology for processing and using technology. However, these shortcomings themselves bring a lot of data that can be learned. Actually after reading all kinds of article, I found out that big data has a strong connect with IoT or like marketing, I think if we use it in appropriate way and it will be a great tool for us.
