Amazon: Using Big Data to understand customers
Amazon
has adopting an policy called “everything under one roof” model. However, the ranges
of options are too huge that customer might feel stressed when browsing the
website. This let Amazon become data-rich, with hundreds of thousands of
options, but insight-poor, with no idea about what would make customer better
off on purchasing decision for them.
To solve
the problem, Amazon use big data analytics to gather information that create by
customer from their purchasing and browsing habits. The more and deeper Amazon
knows you, the website can show the things you may interested in or you
preference.
Amazon,being the
largest online shopping website, a company that earn the huge value in using
big data.To stand on the biggest shopping website, it needs to deal with
tremendous data per day.
Amazon not only
record the information of transaction also record the buyer's preference,
comment and the time they spend on browsing.
For a long time,
Amazon has been through big data analysis, trying to locate customers and
obtain customer feedback. Any result on website is depend on customer's consume
habbit. For instance, target the customer and tring to get their feedback.

They also establish Amazon GO to implement their plan about big data. This is a whole new concept that changes traditional retail industry. Good prediction can offer their customers better products and recommends them other stuffs. Thus, I think we can have more interesting customer experience in the near future. Take Amazon Go for example, they use the application of big data to analyze customers’ behavior. Most importantly, customers do not need to pay money and even use credit cards. Instead, they use the big data techniques to scan customers’ identity. If customers take products, system will automatically record it and give customers products’ information. Amazon collects data from users as they navigate the site, such as the time spent browsing each page. Besides, the retailer also makes use of external datasets, such as census data for gathering demographic details. Amazon’s core business is handled in its central data warehouse. Also, Amazon has not offered many specifics on how their technology works except to say it is similar to driverless cars, which use sensors to create a real-time digital model of a roadway. Likewise, cameras and other sensors must create a digital model of the store that updates in real-time as items and shoppers move around the store.
