Blog#2: 4 Areas Where Big Data is Transforming Healthcare Right Now

To go on with my blog#1, I choose the article that talks about the relationship with big data and healthcare. This article first introduce what is big data and then explain what has big data helped the healthcare industry so far.

First the article mentioned about the "managed care” in America. Because this kind of medical system focus on the cost of medical care, quality, and the accessibility. The providers are measured and graded by big data in this system. Today, many health plans do their risk assessment by big data. Risk stratification is separated into high and low score to the patients. The score standard is based on many aspects like age, gender, or diagnose results. With the integration of these data, the provider can raise the accuracy of the treatment on patients and reduce the cost at the same time.

The second point be mentioned in the article is more accurate treatment will be performed. Under gathering all the patients’ situation, the providers will have better decision making, less cases guessing, and result in overall better patient care.

The third point is about preventing cases before they occurred. How can provider manage to do this? One of the reason is due to the emergence of Internet of Thing and big data analysis, now the providers have the wearable devices which allows them to track and monitor the condition of the patients. Thus, they could hold most of things in control.

The last one point in the article is to reduce errors. This one is kind of like the result of the three points above. Because of the more precise treatments and more exact predictions, they can avoid the errors or indicate them out before they happen. In the health industry, big data really helps to save money, reputations, and the most important, lives.
