Although there are many benefits of using big data, there are 3 massive problems that companies and customers have to be careful of. This article explains the problems which are data privacy, data security, and data discrimination. I learned a lot from this article and thought that many people should also have knowledge about this. The main thing that I learned is that no matter how amazing big data is, we cannot control it 100 percent completely. customers and companies have to have things in mind:

From the customer's point of view, we do not really know if our personal data that we inputted is really kept as private. Therefore, we should really pay attention before we put any of our data and we have to learn about the privacy policies and laws regarding data privacies. We need to be smart about everything that we put in and always be cautious.

From the company's point of view, we have to be a company that can earn the trust of customers so they are comfortable to input their data. Companies should be transparent and explain in detail what they will use the customer's data for. That way, customers can be more relaxed and would rather use our services than others who do not care about their safety.

In conclusion, in order to overcome the problems of big data, both customers and companies have to take part. With the laws and evolution of big data that keeps continuing, it is not easy to take care of these problems fast. However, as long as we have the knowledge and know what we do, we can use the most out of big data.

The title of the article that Vivi chose is, “ 3 Massive Big Data Problem Everyone Should Know About “. I think this article is important because even though big data is something that is very helpful and sophisticated, it also has some problems that we have to know. As the article has mentioned, there are three important big data problems that we have to pay attention to, such as data privacy, data security, and data discrimination.
It is written in the article that the U.S. government is still trying to find the best way to regulate internet privacy rules. Data privacy is very important since as a customer, we do not know how a company will use our personal information. The writer of the article states, “I advise all the companies I work with that transparency and ethical use of data is vital—not only because it’s the right thing to do, but stronger regulation is coming.” He suggests that a company should be transparent in order for their customers to understand for data are they collecting and for what purpose because building trust is important. Aside from data privacy, we also need to be aware about how secure our data is kept. Other than these two, data discrimination is the next problem we need to be aware of. It is very unacceptable for people to be discriminated from their personal data kept by some service providers. Therefore, we need to be discerning in sharing our personal information.
In conclusion, I agree with Vivi’s opinion that both customers and companies need to take part in avoiding big data problems.

  3. Despite big data gives us many benefits in our daily life like unprecedented insights and opportunities across all industries. In the article, it had mentioned that there still are some concerns and problems that should be deal with. As the convenient and functional tool of the big data, it also raised some questions that should keep people up at night, such as data privacy, data security and data discrimination. First, data privacy is a breach of personal information that can damage an individual’s fundamental rights and freedoms, including the risk of identity theft and other types of fraud. Second, data security refers to the process of protecting data from unauthorized access and data corruption throughout its lifecycle. However, if you agreed the data being used because of feeling the benefits of the product or service from the company, can you really trust the company to keep the data safe? I think it’s very difficult now. As Big Data increases in size and the web of connected devices explodes it exposes more of our data to potential security breaches. Many organizations already struggled with data security even before the complexities added by Big Data, so many of them are drowning to keep up. Last, data discrimination, is bias that occurs when predefined data types or data sources are intentionally or unintentionally treated differently than others. It may makes it more difficult for some people to get the information or resources they need. To sum up, I think it is important to start managing the risks now and make privacy a fundamental part of the DNA.
