As
long as the users of the internet increase, more and more data and information
are produced. For the education aspects, big data can benefit both teachers and
students. There are many ways to say how big data leverage through the education field. At the meanwhile, it also provides two faces, according to the
article that the disadvantages of big data may impact.
The most important impact that refers to the article is Learning Management
Systems. It makes teachers easier to manage, grade and track students’
performance. This also can help improve and create a better learning experience
for students. Another beneficial factor that I think is quite interesting but
feels a little invasive is that by collecting and analyzing the data which comes
from different sources like any kind of social media or blogs are able to measure
and know what specific field they are more interested in. Big data also can be
a tool to measure the courses which are prepared by the teacher.
As
for the disadvantages, mostly they were associated with lacking technology. Hard-to-process
data, faulty system and students’ digital literacy ability. The article also
refers that ethical will be the most serious and largest issue if misuse the
personal information. Faulty system could be an excuse.
From
my opinion, big data brings accuracy and lots more figures to educators whereas
it still remains some problems that should be fixed. It is really such an improvement
however lacking proper treatment and protection, the development of big data
should gradually lead to our trust.
That is true that we still can not enjoy a comprehensive big data system in education field. All what we do most is using school-owned online platform to connect teachers and students together. But is it really convenient and direct? I don’t think so. If in the future, big data system developed in a more common way and high percentages of schools can use it as the tool to improve themselves, then in the educational field will usher in a whole new transformation.
ReplyDeleteAlso, big data can show the most effective way to teach and what kind of method did students like the most. Teachers always struggling to find a way to reach higher educational achievement from students and try to change their ways to teach differently. Recently, teachers only can ask students what they evaluate about this course but the answer usually comes out in a general response. So it is not a good way to determine whether the syllabus and teaching skills were suitable or not.
As students’ aspect, we usually prefer learning in a logical way and trying to figure out what teachers are talking about. But sometimes some course are really hard to understand and lead to a fail result. If in the future students can use big data as a learning tool to mark what they don’t understand, then within two or three weeks, teachers can collect all information together to know which specific parts they should teach again or explain more detail. If we don’t consider about the cost in advance, then this big data system will be a really inventive invention.
