you can see from the article that big data has more advantages than
disadvantages in the film industry. 7 advantages to 3 potential disadvantages, despite
the fact that 7 advantages which were mentioned in the article seem beneficial in
the future, there are still some disadvantages that might face and should be
coped with either.
The
7 advantages were listed below, and in my opinion, both reducing production cost
and increased agility for greater innovation are the two most influential factors
in the business field. In fact, every point is associated and connected to each
other.

is an important element that will be taken into consideration. Instead of
thinking about how to make more money, reducing cost is a way to gain profits. Big
data analysis can help decrease expenses by accurately establish the market and
increase operational efficiency. As for agility for greater innovation,
changing the strategies at the right timing can help the company stay ahead of its
rivals. They can act much more quickly through their competitors. Showing you
the potential market. For example, the article takes Toy Story as an instance,
they made more money from merchandising than box office.
Meanwhile,
the three disadvantages are also quite a big concern. Need for talent/ staff,
data quality issue and individual privacy. Based on the 5V we learned in class,
the quality of data that is related to Veracity becomes an uncertainty to the film
industry. So far many topics involved in big data have a similar issue
of individual privacy. In the film industry, they should ensure all the personal
information save and correspond to the laws and government regulations.
For me, big data with the film industry is really an interesting topic. Movies, films are all stick to our daily lives. Learning how it works and how they
improve is quite interesting. I believe that although there are disadvantages, it
will still catch up with the trends and technologies.
From what I read in this blog, one benefits that catch my attention is Personalization. So I began to click on the link given in this blog to find further information about personalization. As I open the link, there is some pop-ups advertisement from Sofy.tv and then I realized that the blog also mentioned Sofy.tv. as an example alongside with the big competitors Netflix.
ReplyDeleteI personally used Netflix to watch film whether is a movie series, drama, or film. The company collects their users’ data and activities or preferences to suggest or recommend films and TV shows that I might enjoy watching, based on history and search engine. Besides purchase a physical disk or watching from the Box Office, Netflix provides a rental digital movie that all users have to subscribe and pay some certain of money in order to access the sites. But, it all comes with some disadvantages, Individual Privacy is one of them. Since the company uses user’s data for analysis but companies are required to make sure that they follow the government regulations regarding data and information gathering. They might get a huge problem if their web got hijacks by hackers if they storing users personal and sensitive information. They have to make sure that the they handling the information based on laws and regulations to protect the right of privacy of its people. Other than that, overall AI and big data really is a great investment for companies to entertain and giving a great experience to the users so they are willing to subscribe for another months or years.
After reading this article, I realize that movie making are really close to our daily life. We watched movies on TV, on streaming platform or through personal download disks. All of these are relevant to us that we usually choose the movie we interested in. On online streaming platforms, some of these platforms had already using big data analysis to correctly meet customers’ need. For example: Netflix, after watching a drama series on Netflix, it will recommend some similar concept of drama or movie to me in order to match my preference. But using big data as the analysis tool is that we may face exposure risk . If the official platforms can not protect personal information provided from customers from outside hackers, then their reputation or brand image may become worse.

Like increase productivity, revenue and reduce making cost. These all sounds like common advantages that we can see in recent growing industries, but it is hard to achieve that we should invest in hardware first, which may cost a lot in advance. If experts or some leading companies can invent or develop a system that can let people easy to use, or easily analyze databases, then maybe in the future, somedays, we can use big data system as one of our daily tools and implement in all kinds of industries to improve country economics ability.
